It looks like the Federal Government is now looking at granting amnesty
for members of Boko Haram as a way of ending the ruthless the Islamic
sect ,the nation reports . We all should remember that the amnesty
worked in the case of the militants in the Niger Delta that troubled
Nigeria during OBJ's regime . For me , I wonder what took the government
so long to provide amnesty as an option to end the insurgency.
Well , the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna made this known to the public during a programme to mark the nation’s Democracy Day titled ‘A day with young leaders of Nigeria'.
President Goodluck Jonathan has given approval for the amnesty to be given as soon as the sect lay down their arms telling the members of the sect to embrace this new development . He said:
“President Goodluck Jonathan has also declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect. Series of integration programmes have been lined up for the members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace.Let me use this opportunity on behalf of the Federal Government, to call on the members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace the government’s gesture and key into the amnesty programme.”

The Minister said that over 30,000 youths of the Niger Delta have
benefited from the amnesty programme that transformed militants to
wealth creators, employers of labour and skilled citizens
