Former Vice Principal of American International School, Lagos, AISL, Mrs
Ebere Mbanugo, was on Tuesday, May 27 arraigned at the Lagos State High
Court, Igbosere, Court 34 before the Hon Justice Oluwatotin Taiwo with
case No LD/549C/2014 for stealing and misappropriation of funds.The money belongs to the Child Survival and Development organization’s Run For a Cure Program, an initiative hosted by her former employers AISL, where she acted as the race coordinator.
Mrs. Mbanugo who has been on police bail pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge and was subsequently granted bail. The case is being handled by Lagos State.
The first statement of offence obtained from the court showed that Mrs. Mbanugo is facing a three-count charge of ‘Sealing, contrary to section 278 and punishable under section 265(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
The particular of offence reads thus:
“Mrs Ebele Mbanugo between 2009 and 2011 at American International School, Victoria Island, Lagos, in the Lagos judicial division while in the employment of the American International School, which acted as the coordinator for the Child Survival and Development organization, fraudulently misappropriated the sum of $110,267.57 property of Child Survival and Development organization.”The second statement of offence also reveals, ‘Sealing, contrary to section 278(1) (b) and punishable under section 265(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011
And that within the same period, the accused, “fraudulently converted to her personal use a Mammogram machine belonging to the Child Survival and Development organization.”
The third count charge has it that this same offence was allegedly
repeated by the accused between September and October 2012 while she was
still in the employment of the American International School, to which
she pleaded not guilty to all counts.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to June 26, 30 and July 2, 2014 for accelerated trial.
