Today, the federal government awarded a N6 million scholarship to 10-year-old Chukwuemeka Obi-Obasi for his great talent in writing poetry.
Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike made the announcement, Vanguard reports. He revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan approved the scholarship to encourage the emergence of new talents.
Obi-Obasi
who is currently in Primary 5, reportedly gave a stirring performance at
the opening of the First Annual Conference of Certified Librarians in
Abuja. The minister was
impressed by his recital of a poem
titled, “Nigeria my country,” moving him to award Obi-Obasi the
scholarship.
“This administration has always placed emphasis on discovering talents and encouraging them.
“Such rare display
of talents by our young ones is an indication that in spite of the
current challenges, there is still hope for our country,” Wike said.
The N6 million, which
will be paid at once, will cover Obi-Obasi’s school expenses to the
completion of his secondary education.
