The Confederation of African Football, CAF trimmed the over 23 man nominees list for the 2014 African footballer of the year award to five with two Nigerians, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa making the cut.
The
list also includes the current holder, Yaya Toure who now stands as the
major competition that whoever would win needs to surmount
Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon are other names in the final five.
In the female category, Nigerian duo of Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie fight it out with Annette Ngo Ndom of Cameroon, South Africa’s Portia Modise and Zenatha Coleman of Namibia.
CAF also trimmed the final list for the home based player of the year with late South Africa captain Senzo Meyiwa making the list.
He will slug it out with Algerian duo Akram Djahnit and El Hedi Belamieri of ES Setif; others are Congo’s Firmin Mubel Ndombe, and Fakhereddine Ben Youssef of Tunisia.
The award ceremony holds in Lagos on January 8, 2015.
The award has come and gone but he didn't win.
