Tension In Rivers As Wike Clamps On Three Commissions
There is palpable tension in Rivers state over fears that Governor Nyesom Wike may sack more civil servants in the state following an order that the activities of three commissions be probed. Nyesom Wike
The governor has embarked on a sacking spree of civil servants in the state over allegations that the previous administration breached the rules and illegally
employed the workers into the state service, among others.
In a statement yesterday, July 2, in Port Harcourt, the governor said the probe of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC) and the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission (RSLGSC ) became necessary following alleged financial misappropriation and employment racketeering carried out by the commissions in question, Leadership reports.
“The government of Rivers State has resolved to investigate the financial activities and employment racket in the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission. The government is to also investigate the employment racketeering in the Civil Service Commission under Sir Ngo Martins Yellow, “the statement read.
However, the probe suffered a setback after the chairman of RSLGSC, Chief Namadi Wokekoro and his commissioners and other officials shunned an invitation by the State House of Assembly to appear before it.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the Nyesom Wike, plans to plunge the state into an abyss of debt.
The party said it had uncovered plans by the governor to wreck the state’s treasury by borrowing N100 billion within two months.
