… Kwankwaso visits victims
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Aderrele Shinnaba, while confirming the incident, explained that eight people died in the explosion and about 20 persons were rushed to the hospital.
The bomb blast was targeted at a very busy spot within the school’s premises, where visitors park their vehicles and students converge to relax.
The commissioner added that eight cars were partly damaged in the explosion.
A member of staff of the nearby state Universal Primary Education Board, who sought anonymity said she heard a loud noise that lasted for seconds, adding that it shook her office and a number of nearby buildings when it went off.
“At first, we were not sure. Some said it was tyre blast, others said it was a bomb blast. But we later found out that it was a blast because we could see the extent of damage and those injured being rushed to the hospital,” she said.
Security source said it was believed that the bomb was planted in the premises by whoever placed it there.
Soldiers and other security personnel had since cordoned off the vicinity of the blast.
There had been mild panic in the town as people, especially those whose offices were within the vicinity of the incident, promptly left their offices for safety.
Mwanwhile, a suspect has been apprehended by the police in Kano.
He was identified and picked a few metres away from the actual scene of the bomb blast hiding under a vehicle.
His suspected accomplice was said to have been killed by a mob.
But the Kano State Police spokesman, Magaji Majiya, an ASP told Daily Sun that it was the same suspect that was arrested that was claimed to have being killed.
However, the Kano State Government has commiserated with the families of the bomb blast, praying Allah for the quick recovery of the victims, while the state Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was said to have visited the victims of the blast at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.
