Another Gobe-- Christ Embassy U.K Under Probe For Fraud

 

The United Kingdom Charity Commission has launched a probe into the transfer of at least N941 million (£3.6 million) by christ embassy church to overseas entities between 2008 and 2012.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Charity Commission said it has

opened a statutory inquiry to investigate Christ Embassy over “a number of serious concerns relating to the use of charitable funds, in particular large connected party payments and the potential misapplication of grant funding.”

British Ebola patient, William Pooley, has been discharged

William Pooley, the first British National who tested positive to the deadly Ebola virus in Sierra Leone on August 23rd has been discharged from the Royal Free Hospital in London. He was discharged today September 3rd after being successfully treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp

The 29 year old volunteer nurse was transported from Sierra Leone to England on August 24th, a day after he tested positive.

Update: Suspected Kaduna Ebola case tests negative

Yesterday there were reports that a student of Law at Ahmadu Bello University, showed symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus, but fortunately he's tested negative to the virus.

According to Premium Times, authorities of ABU and the Kaduna State Government had sent the patient’s blood to Lagos for testing after he reportedly manifested some symptoms associated with Ebola while on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital. Continue...

Students of the College of Education, Ogwaruo, Benin, are currently causing traffic gridlock on the Benin-Ore Expressway. According to a LIB reader in Benin who sent in the photos, the students are refusing to allow cars ply the high way. He said the students are protesting no results, no good roads, no power, that their school is like a poultry with no authority.

How Borno Villagers Laid Ambush And Killed 200 Boko Haram Fighters

               Almost 200 suspected members of the Boko Haram were killed today by residents of Rann, the headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area in north eastern part of Borno State, officials and locals from the area said.
Sources said the insurgents, numbering over 300 stormed Rann and adjoining villages around 4am today but met resistance from the people who had knowledge of the impending attack.

Ebola Patient Who Escapes Quarantine Dragged Back Into Truck

               A footage online today shows the moment an Ebola patient who escapes quarantine in search of food is forced into the back of a truck after being recaptured. The footage broadcast by Sky News, was captured in Liberia, which is currently in the grip of an Ebola epidemic.

According to reports, he had reportedly escaped from doctors at a local hospital ( who have been turning Ebola sufferers away due to overcrowding) before running into a local market to look for food.

Health workers traced him and persuaded him to get into the truck they brought, but he refused and tried to escape once again before they forced him into the waiting truck. Ebola has claimed the lives of so many people in Liberia. Two more photos after the cut.

FG Announces Containment Of The Ebola Virus As 2 More Persons Are Discharged

              The Federal Government has announced the containment of the deadly Ebola Virus, which was imported into the country by Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian. Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu revealed this at a media briefing today (Tuesday).

In a statement released by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Communication, Dan Nwomeh, the country had thirteen cases of the Ebola Virus Disease including Patrick Sawyer, the index case.

The full statement reads thus:

FG postpones resumption of primary & secondary schools to October 15th

                    The Federal Government has postponed the resumption of primary and secondary schools across the country to October 22nd, it has been announced. Primary and Secondary schools were supposed to resume on September 22nd but about two weeks, FG postponed it indefinitely to prevent an outbreak of the Ebola Viral Disease. They announced today that schools can resume October 15th.
                        The Federal Government also stopped all summer schools.

There’s only one Ebola patient left in Nigeria. This was announced earlier today by the Minister of Health, Dr. Onyebuchi Chukwu at press conference.
The virus was first brought to Nigeria by a Liberian-American,

Patrick Sawyer, almost 6 weeks ago. Since that time, a total of fourteen other people were infected, five people have died, including Sawyer, while seven have recovered fully. According to the Minister, two of the nurses who had primary contact with Mr. Sawyer were discharged from the isolation centre in Lagos yesterday, 25 August, 2014.

Mistaken Identity: University lecturer Shoot By Unknown Gunmen in Anambra

        In a case of mistaken identity, Mr Reuben Ikwu, an Engineering lecturer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), was reportedly attacked and shot by three unknown gunmen on Sunday, 24 August.
The gunmen had mistakened Ikwu for a Lagos-based businessman who was on a visit to Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The gunmen had trailed the Lagos-based businessman’s driver back home to the entrance of the house, where he was playing host to the late Ikwu.
An eyewitness, Ferdinad, told journalists that when the gunmen shot and killed his guest, policemen, who were escorts of the businessman took cover, returned fire and shot two of the gunmen dead, while the third person, was severely wounded but still managed to escape in a Sport Utility Vehicle.
The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Uche Ezeh, confirmed the incident, saying that investigations revealed that the gunmen were kidnappers, as some criminals in police custody identified one
of the gang members as their leader.
