                           Pope Francis, who is currently on a state visit to Turkey, joined Muslim faithfuls in Istanbul to pray at the Grand Mufti of Istanbul, Istanbul Blue Mosque yesterday. 

                            The Pope stood with his head bowed and hands clasped in front of him in 2-minutes of silent prayer inside the 17th-century Sultan Ahmet mosque, aiming to show respect for Islam and encourage stronger ties between the two faiths.

dIbrahim Babajide Obanikoro, son of former Minister of State for Defence and governorship aspirant for Lagos on the platform of PDP, Musiliu Obanikoro, was yesterday evening declared the winner of the party’s primary election for the candidacy of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obanikoro polled 18 votes against Muyiwa Ariyo, who got nine votes. 

The duo battled for the candidacy to represent Eti-Osa Constituency 2 at the House in the forthcoming election.

              No fewer than 120 died and 270 were injured on Friday as the violent Boko Haram sect bombed the 10,000 capacity Kano Central Mosque where the Emir, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, usually leads prayers.

About 10 gunmen went on a shooting spree after the blast at the mosque, which is close to the Emir of Kano’s palace.

                  President Goodluck Jonathan has condoled with the people and Government of Kano State over the attack on the Central Mosque in Kano on Friday which he described as heinous.
                  In a statement reacting to the incident in which scores of persons were killed, President Jonathan commiserated with all the families who lost their loved ones.
                   He called on relief agencies and medical personnel to deploy every possible effort to assist the injured, and the general public to heed the call for the donation of blood by the hospitals where the injured are being treated.
